This week the Chatham Kent Community Foundation (CKCF) pledged to donate $100,000 to the Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent (CTCFCK) in support of their Butterfly Building Campaign. CKCF noted that the funding came from the Carlo A. Corsini Fund and the South Kent Wind Community Fund, both are donor advised funds of the CKCF, as well as the CKCF Community Fund. An initial grant of $20,978 was made recently with a commitment to fulfill the pledge over the next 4 years.
“The Butterfly Building Campaign has been going strong thanks to generous donations like these,” said Mike Genge, Executive Director of CTCFCK. “We’re so happy that the community is seeing the need for a larger, more accessible facility and they are eager to help the children of Chatham-Kent with special needs reach their full potential.”
By 2020, it is estimated that the Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent (CTC-CK) will serve 4,500 clients, a substantial increase from the 224 clients they served when the current building was first built in 1984. By building a better facility to accommodate the growing case load and making sure that all children and youth are able to have full accessibility, the CTC-CK will be able to provide the better quality of care that the children and youth of Chatham-Kent deserve.
“We saw there was a need,” indicated Paul Mayrand, CKCF Board member and chair of the Marketing and Public Relations Committee. “If you want to care and help the community you have to look at those who are most vulnerable and ask yourself what you can do. And what we can do is make sure that the children and youth of Chatham-Kent are properly cared for in a safe, fully accessible environment that will allow them to thrive.”
The new 50,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility will be built on McNaughton Ave and will provide the needed space as the specialized treatment requirements for children and youth with disabilities continues to grow in Chatham-Kent.
